Gateway Bike & Boathouse is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity based on the Rockaway Peninsula. We are an advocacy group for bike-friendly roads and water access for human-powered and wind-powered watercraft, including kayaks, canoes, rowing shells, and small sailboats. In cooperation with the U.S. National Park Service and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, we recently advocated for, and successfully established, two local Jamaica Bay launch and landing facilities for human-powered boats on the peninsula–at Gateway National Recreation Area’s Riis Landing (Beach 169 Street), and at Beach 88 Street.
We are presently advocating for human-powered boats to have legal access to the Atlantic Ocean along Rockaway’s 10 miles of beachfront, and for an additional water access location for human and wind-powered watercraft (kayaks, canoes, rowing shells, and small sailboats, such as Sunfish) along Beach Channel Drive between Beach 125th and 130th Streets. We have created a petition page: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/Rockaway-Without-Walls. If you are in favor, please take a couple of minutes to visit this page and register your support.
The Gateway Bike & Boathouse thanks you for your support of our water access goals. Please call or send us an e-mail if you have questions or comments you would like to share. Telephone: 718-530-0040 Information: Info@GatewayBoathouse.org
